Interested in volunteering at Pequot Library? Read on to learn about some of the events that can be a venue for your talents…

The Book Sale

The Pequot Library Book Sale, now entering its 46 th year, is one of the largest and longest continuously- running book sales in the nation. With over 120,000 books and other items, the Sale sets records and draws book lovers from all over the region and country. It has become a summer tradition in the area, where people of all ages browse the tables for bargain books and treasured finds. In addition, it is the Library’s biggest fundraiser of the year. An event of this magnitude is not the work of one individual or a few weeks. A team of volunteers work year round to sort and price the books and even more volunteers are needed the week of the sale to help the Sale run smoothly. For more information about the Sale and to learn how to get involved, click here to visit the Book Sale section of the website.

The Art Show

Entering its 9 th year, the Pequot Library Art Show brings the work of artists from all over the region to your neighborhood. The Show combines amateur and professional artists in a unique installation, to the delight of our patrons. The 2006 Art Show, held in October this year, combined the talent of our local artists with the beauty of the restored Library and, for the first time, featured a theme: Coast and Countryside: Local Scenes from Southport to Stonington. This gave a sense of cohesion to the Show, while the different mediums and styles lent variety. The event also features a Preview Party, where PLA members and honored guests come together for a sneak peak at the trove of art assembled at the Library. The Art Show included, over the weekend, a Gallery Talk for adults and an “en plein air” art workshop for children. Like the Book Sale, this Library fundraiser event requires the dedication of a team of volunteers to make it all come together. Click here to visit the Art Show website and learn more.

The Golf Outing

Our newest fundraiser, the Pequot Library Golf Outing, is entering its second year. Held in May at the Country Club of Fairfield, the event drew golfers out into the fresh air for a day of golf in support of a good cause. Though the main event was eighteen holes of golf, the Outing also included two auctions, live and silent, raffles and a Cocktail Party in the evening. Contact the Library at 203.259.0346 if you would like to get involved in this exciting event.
